Frances Turner - Complete Works -Paintings

The paintings shown here follow a roughly chronological order from 1990 when Frances began her BA at Wimbledon School of Art at 25 to her tragic death in 2003 at the age of 38. From early life studies, through an intense period of self portraiture, to her successes at the National Portrait Gallery, Frances' work never stopped changing and evolving. The last piece shown here is an unfinished painting she began in Mexico using the tempura techniqes of the Flemish masters. We can only imagine what pieces she might have gone on to create if her life had not been so cruelly cut short. All we can be grateful for is that she created a formidable body of work in a mere thirteen years.
